EFL Teachers: Residential and non-residential posts. Teachers prepare and deliver the English language programme to our multinational students. Teachers are expected to be involved in the activity/social programme, up to 28 hours per week. The teaching timetable runs from 09.00 to 12.20 - 3 hours’ teaching, Monday to Friday inclusive. Teachers are paid for 5 hours teaching preparation per week.

All MLI TEFL teachers will be native speakers or equivalent - C2/CPE/IELTS 8-level - qualified to British Council standards; thus they will hold a primary degree or equivalent (NQF level 6/FHEQ level H) in addition to a British Council-recognised TEFL certificate (CELTA/Trinity Cert TESOL – no weekend or online certs); alternatively state qualified teachers (PGCE/B.Ed) with English/Modern Languages or a BC-recognised TEFL Cert.

MLI provide full academic support for teachers with a dedicated syllabus including supplementary materials; in addition to this, a full-range of additional resource books will be provided. Teachers receive a training manual with the syllabus.
Teachers are required to plan their lessons within the framework of the syllabus and maintain a lesson log and related administration.

Teachers work a contract consisting of 15 morning teaching hours, 5 hours lesson preparation. Residential teachers work up to an additional 7 extra-curricular sessions (28 hours) - sports, weekend excursions or cultural activities sessions. In the case of residential teachers mealtime and lights-out duties are rostered as part of these non-academic activities and excursions hours.
Non-residential teachers can choose either a teaching plus or teaching only package. The teaching plus package is paid at £300 per week and includes 15 morning teaching hours, 5 hours lesson preparation and up to 3 extra-curricular sessions (12 hours) per week.
The teaching only option consists of 15 morning teaching hours and 5 hours lesson preparation paid at £220 per week and is non-residential.

On the application form, you will be required to sign a form declaring details of any criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands and final warnings or any other information that may have a bearing on your suitability for the post. Please note all references will be followed up. Should your application be successful, you will be subject to a CRB Enhanced Disclosure or Disclosure Scotland background check.

All Teachers must have read and understood the MLI Induction and Training Manual and be fully conversant with our policies for the welfare and protection of children. At all times whilst on duty, you are responsible for the care, welfare and safety of students whilst ensuring they are following school rules.

Main Responsibilities and Duties
1. Teacher Role

1.1 Teach English to a high standard, following our syllabus, with the emphasis on oral communication.
1.2 Assist in the running of the Student Placement Test as directed.
1.3 Complete documentation as required, including registers and daily lesson logs.
1.4 Be observed by the Director of Studies or Senior Teacher, usually during the second week of employment, and take part in the employee appraisal system. Additional feedback may be given at the end of the course.
1.5 Attend meetings as arranged by the Director of Studies.
1.6 Maintain proper records as directed by the DOS.

2. Activities and Excursions

2.1 Prepare for all your activity and excursion sessions thoroughly. Preparation time can be considerable if you are to ensure the success of the timetabled session. This involves:
• Have all equipment and decorations, if appropriate, set up before students arrive.
• Have considered all potential hazards concerning Health & Safety according to MLI guidelines, make necessary provisions to avoid accidents.
• Know necessary instructions/information/directions before session/excursion start.
2.2 Ensure you have a list of students that are present in your session, maintain accurate registers of their attendance and report any absences.
2.3 Encourage the involvement of students in activities and events, leading by example.
2.4 Actively take part in sports and other activity sessions with students.
2.5 Look after the materials/equipment and ensure they are returned at the end of each activity.
2.6 Escort groups on excursions and ensure the safety and welfare of the students, as well as providing them with information to help them get the maximum benefit from their stay.
2.7 Complete feedback form on each session for the Centre Manager.


3. Welfare
3.1 All members of the residential team have student welfare duties on a rota basis to assist in the programme of student supervision that must be carried out in line with company policy.
3.2 This will include mealtimes, free-time both on and off campus and night time duties on a rota basis.
3.3 Liaise with the Centre Manager to confirm the rota for supervision and pastoral care.


4. Other duties

4.1 Assist with airport transfers and student arrivals and departures.
4.2 Assist with centre administration as directed.
4.3 Assist in closing the centre and returning equipment.
4.4 Deputise in the absence of the Activities Coordinator on request.
4.5 Additional duties as required.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION
ESSENTIAL:
Ability to motivate and enjoy working with large groups of children / teenagers
Excellent communication skills and native or near-native level of fluency in English eg (CEF level C2, CPE, IELTS 8)
Enthusiasm and team player
21 years of age and over
Excellent organisation skills
Ability to work in a high pressure environment
Genuine interest in teaching and working with young students.
Smart and tidy appearance.
RECOMMENDED:
Previous experience working with children / teenagers
Competent sportsperson with excellent knowledge of rules and organization of sports / games
First Aid qualification
Previous summer school experience
Experience and interest in related subjects e.g. sports, drama, arts and crafts etc
Lifeguard / Coaching qualification
